Essential oils come from the extracts of plants and flowers. Throughout history,
essential oils have been used for their therapeutic effects and healing
properties. From the ancient Egyptians and the wise men of the Bible (remember
the frankincense and myrrh) to modern day uses like Ben Gay and mouthwash,
essential oils are natures own healing elements.
The most common ways of using essential oils are aromatherapy and massage.
Both of these methods create a romantic setting for your sensual massage. Not
only are the aromatic scents inhaled, but the oils are absorbed through the
skin. These oil can be calming and relaxing or they can stimulate and even
enhance romantic moments. The smell of a rose is not just pleasant, but it
actually triggers receptors in the brain that stimulate desire.
Using essential oils in your sensual massage is simple. When preparing the
room a simple vaporizer will gently fill the room with the desired scents and
when mixed with you massage oil the luxurious effects will bring immense
pleasure. Of course there are thousands of essential oils available, but one of
the fun things about using them is finding the scents and blends that you and
your partner enjoy.

To select the right oil for you there are a few tips to keep in mind.

1. Choose an oil that is right for the occasion. – If you aim is to relax
make sure you are not using an oil know for its stimulating effect such as lemon
or grapefruit.

2. Use a good carrier oil. – This is one of the best reasons for selecting
professional grade massage oils rather than food grade oils. While almond oil
feels and smells great, if you are going to be blending it with a incompatible
essential oil you wont get the effects you desire. For example, I love to use
lavender, it is very relaxing and will almost instantly get rid of a tension
headache, but it dose not mix well with almond oil.

3. Make sure you buy only real essential oil. – Many of the more expensive
oils are diluted or “cut” with low quality oils or additives. You will not get
the benefits of the essential oil if you try to get it cheap. There is no such
thing as inexpensive rose oil. It takes about 440 lbs of rose petals to make 2
pints of essential oil. Of course there are other oils that cost less, but don’t
think you are getting a deal if you find an unusually low price for an oil.

4. Before using an oil check for allergies. – Essential oils are highly
concentrated plant essences. If you are going to have a reaction, it is better
to learn with a drop on your wrist, than after you have had it rubbed all over
your body.

5. Don’t use too much essential oil. – A little will go a long way. Start
with a 2% solution. That is 5 drops in a tablespoon of oil. For a full body
sensual massage, 10 drops of essential oil in 2 Tablespoons should do the trick.
As you experiment with your essential oils you will soon learn what you and your
partner like.
